Across the UK, Andrew Fisher and other clinicians specialising in biomechanics and gait analysis use orthoses supplied by AJF Laboratories.

At these clinics a full biomechanical and gait analysis assessment will be carried out and subsequent treatment may include prescription of orthoses, manipulation and exercises. In addition some clinics have direct access to X-Rays and MRI scans reducing the time taken to diagnose and treat a whole range of lower limb problems.

Biomechanical Assessment and Prescription of Orthoses

You will be assessed 'biomechanically' rather than 'medically' from head to toe. The biomechanical approach focuses on your posture and walking pattern and the manner in which you stand and walk [postural mechanics]. Poor postural mechanics will put extra stress through the entire musculoskeletal structure.

The podiatrist will observe your gait pattern and will be looking in particular for the following:

• Excessive pronation (in rolling) of the feet
• Position of the knees which may come closer together
• The low back may appeared 'swayed' [rotated forward].
• The head and shoulders may shift forward.
• Evidence of a leg length difference or muscular tightness.
• You may walk heavy footed.
• Your shoulders and arms may have a more limited motion and appear 'tight' with each step.

Following assessment at one of our SPECIALIST CENTRES the clinician will confirm if ORTHOSES will help you. They will be made to your prescription and will be fitted at a later appointment.
