Heel Pain

   

There are many types of heel pain caused by a variety of factors:

1. Achilles Tendonitis – see Ankle Pain
 
2. Plantar Fasciitis
 
3. Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome – Commonly caused by entrapment of Posterior Tibial Nerve and usually relieved by use of Prescription Orthoses
 
4.
Stress Fracture – Common in soldiers or road runners. Confirmed by X-Ray. Rest is required is suspected
 
5. Severs Disease – Similar to Osgood-Schlatters in the knee. Following a Biomechanical Assessment, Prescription Orthoses should be issued to improve foot function.

Plantar Fasciitis

In this condition the Plantar Fascia pulls on the fibrous membrane covering the calcaneum causing inflammation and pain. The main cause is over pronation (in roiling) of the foot.

Typically pain is felt in the heel when the first steps of the day are taken or after rest.

Treatment, following a Biomechanical Assessment and Gait Analysis, normally consists of:
