About Orthoses

Orthoses are shoe inserts prescribed to:

  • Help your feet maintain better body alignment
  • Help to improve foot function

This will then lead to an improvement or resolution of symptoms.

How are they made?

One of our podiatrists will carry out a Biomechanical Assessment and Gait Analysis to determine if prescription orthoses are appropriate for you. The information gained from this assessment will help to determine the type of orthoses needed. Factors to be considered include:

  • Regular Sporting Activities
  • Medical Status eg Diabetes, Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Age
  • Occupation
  • Usual Footwear

Following assessment an impression will then be taken of your foot from which the orthoses will be made.

At your next appointment your orthoses will be fitted and advice will be given about initial wear periods.

A review appointment will follow when the podiatrist will assess you for improvements in your condition and make any minor adjustments to the orthoses that may be required.

*The foot orthoses prescribed and supplied through ORTHOTICSDIRECT are manufactured to a high standard using the latest materials and techniques.

In the unlikely event of any manufacturing defect being found with your foot orthoses within six months of fitting, we will replace them free of charge.
